Connect LED terminals to a voltage meter (multimeter). The multimeter would measure at the 20 volts measuring limit of the direct voltage metering range. In natural daylight the instrument shows a voltage of 0.05 volts. Light up the LED from above using another LED. Voltage would increase between the electrodes of the lit LED. The measured voltage level would vary with changes in the intensity of illumination (i.e. by putting the other LED closer or further up). Both the LEDs and solar cells work the same way.

Implements required for the experiment

– Voltmeter
– Wires
– A green LED
– A strong white LED
– Power supply to operate the white LED
